Among them is Lambertville, perched elegantly on the banks of the Delaware River, its scenic vistas providing inspiration for the large community of artists and craftsmen that call the town home. Hunterdon County in western New Jersey is a veritable hotbed of small charming towns. There are some notable places of interest, too, among them a brick library housed in a historic former bank, a white-steepled Baptist Church, and a Revolutionary War-era graveyard. Situated in Mercer County, Hopewell is perhaps best known for its liberal sprinkling of antique stores that provide ample opportunity for gift or souvenir hunting. To experience the town at its Autumnal best, venture to Stokes State Forest, a popular spot for hikers and families enjoying a picnic in scenic environs, or the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which has the picturesque waters of Delaware River flowing freely through it.Ī pretty street view in Frenchtown (Photo: Jazz Guy via Flickr / CC BY 2.0) Pleasing on the eye all-year-round, it is Autumn when Branchville truly comes into its own, as the foliage changes colour, lining trees with dazzling speckles of orange, red and yellow. Not thrilled with the idea of not being able to take a cooler on the beach in Spring Lake, though, so Point Pleasant sounds like it might be a good option.A Victorian-era home in Belvidere (Photo: Doug Kerr via Flickr / CC BY-SA 2.0) Having said that, SusieQQ what town were you thinking of when you said that there is one town that allows it as long as not glass? Just curious. The only thing that I flat out said I didn't want to do was go to Six Flags - a suggestion which didn't have much to do with my original inquiry anyway, and which I tried to reject politely by saying that it was a great idea!Īlso, wasn't really looking for a beach where we can take alcohol on the beach - more a question of being able to get a drink with a meal, or on the boardwalk. I said it's nice to have some alternatives, but it was also nice to hear that Island Beach State Park really is a nice beach, since i really didn't have anything else to compare it to.
